Help!

    ok im trying to install a hard drive from one of my old computers that has window's xp on it onto my new computer that already has xp on it,i want to format the old hard drive so i can use this as space for when i install kubuntu but when i boot the bios don't recognize and window's don't recognize even when scanning for hardware changes it show's nothing!please help.

    EDIT: and for some reason my dvd drive won't show up anymore after installing this hard drive.
