Try another computer. And why can't you restore in DFU?

Does it give you an error in DFU mode?

DFU restore brings up the apple logo with progress bar. the bar doesn't move and it restarts to connect to itunes then does the whole thing again.

Try putting into iTunes while it's not in DFU mode then restore it and itunes will put it in DFU mode and restore it for you. I recommend backing up your apps before trying it.
