I was happily on 2.1.0/2.1.1 I cant remember and then I stupidly decided to try and jailbreak it with makeitra1n.
I downloaded 3.1.2 FW and then tried to shift-restore it.
    It didnt work.
    Got this:
    Code:

    Well..alot of that.
I thought it was the USB I was using so I tried a different port; same problem.
Got stuck on 'PREPARING IPOD FOR RESTORE'

Now its stuck in the ipod>cable screen.

So I tried it on a different computer [current is running w7 other I tried had XP]
    Didnt work.
Then I tried it with a different cable; still didnt work.

Now I tried it with just normal update to 2.2.1 [or whatever the latest free 2.x.x is]

And that got to restoring ipod then got error 13.

So I did it again and it got stuck on preparing to restore.
    3 times.

    Last time [just now]
    It got error 14.

    HOW MANY ERRORS ARE THERE?!

    What do I do...

    Did you read it?
First I was trying to upgrade directly to 3.1.2

Anyway, I just did it again and the 'Restoring iPod' got right to the end then gave me a 13 error.

    What do I do?!

Woah, Don't stress. If it's that messed it's probably still under warrenty because they won't be able to fix it either. I had similar problems, although from a different cause.

basically. you can't straight upgrade to 3.1.x. you gotta do 3.0 atleast once before trying to upgrade to 3.1.x.

i had this too when i tried to jailbreak my friends ipod on 2.2.1 straight to 3.1.2.

it got errors too but not as many as how you describe it. try googling the error codes. thats what i did
