I jailbroke my 1G ipod touch using Quickpwn with no problems and I just did a clean restore and updated to OS 3.0.
I follow the instructions for jailbreaking but I cannot get it to work. Redsnow runs, goes through the procedure, screen flashes a bit but on completion when it tells me it is done I get a blank screen on the ipod and I have to power it down and back on again.

Done this ten times now and still no joy. Am I missing something??

Did you correctly get it into DFU mode?

Not sure, I followed the instructions to the letter. I turned off my ipod (slide red bar to turn off) then ran redsnow holding down the buttons as instructed for the times stated. How can you be sure you are in DFU mode?

And by white, you obviously meant black, the colour it actually goes when its in DFU mode?

The iPod should look like its off when its in DFU mode

I got the same problem, the frozen iPod is right on my desk.

I tried both methods with no error in entering DFU and jailbreaking, the process is extremely smooth.

But the fact is, my iPod is frozen now, and if I reset it, everything goes back to normal except it loads a little bit slower.

It turned white for a few seconds during the redsnow process running (after the third stage of the process). The program says it is done Then it goes to a black (blank) screen and nothing. Have to turn the ipod off and there is no Cydia on the springboard or any other sign it has worked.
