Hi i have an ipod touch 2g and on firmware 3.0 jailbroken.

I want to upgrade to 3.1.2 and then jailbreak as more and more apps require this firmware.

I was wondering if anyone can give me steps to follow in order to do this and which is the easiest method to go about it.

I used redsn0w before to jailbreak and i would be comfortable using this again, but if backra1n is the better option i will use that.

Do i need to restore itunes to 3.1.2 before jailbreaking?

    Thanks in advance

You need to restore your iPod to 3.1.2 before jailbreaking that firmware. Just restore to that, download blackra1n, and click the button "make it ra1n." wait. pwn.

when you say 'restore' does that mean where you press shift and click restore and then choose the 3.1.2 firmware?

or can i just click update in itunes and get to the 3.1.2 firmware?

    thanks for the response

you can just click update to 3.1.2 firmware. No need for restore. Either way you'll lose your jail broken data.

Wrong. When you click update, your jailbroken files are still there. So if you don't want your device to be crap slow, then restore. Then jailbreak w/ blackra1n. You can shift+restore if you already have the 3.1.2 correct firmware. Or just click restore and download the firmware from iTunes.
