While installing a case mod, my USB won't work on my iPod touch 1G (won't charge, won't connect, etc.)

I've got my iPod open again and I see three wires connecting to the USB part, and they all seem fine.
I don't see any problems or anything really damaged looking except for some scratched up black tape looking stuff near the bottom of the big silver part below the battery housing.

Anyone have any ideas what's causing this.
Please help me, I don't want to have to buy a new iPod.

I accidentally put this in the iphone forum lol.
Well, my warenty is certainly void.
It's jailbroken and there's no way for me to restore it..

Do you think if I tried putting it into recovery mode and took it into the apple store they would take it back? Because my modded boot logo wouldn't be visible, right?

They would hook it up and perform a diagnostic. If it's jailbroken they will boot it and see. It could just be your cable.

    It's not my cable.
I've tried it with tons of different ones.

Even if it was stuck in recovery mode how would they be able to tell that it was jailbroken?
