I cannot fix error 1604 no matter what i try. i have read through the forums of people who had the same and what fixed theirs did not fix mine. I have tried putting in DFU mode and nothing...still error 1604. tried different computers and nothing. Created new account on my computer and tried restore through that and yes error 1604 again. Some people say it will not restore but can still see their screen brightly. This ipod touch 16gb has a very dim restore mode icon when i turn it on. It does not even light up when i put in DFU tried booting and when i boot it i see the apple logo again very dim??? i have tried showing hidden files deleting the update and redownloading the upate and again error 1604. Can anyone help i will give rep and admire the fact you had a real fix.

error 1604 means that you are trying to restore fw that isnt compatible. basically like trying to restore with winpwn firmware, when ur ipod or phone is pwned.

So did you get into recovery mode?

All you have to do is turn of your Touch. Then Plug it into your computer and hold the home button

    Go here
    http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/

Download the iPod Touch firmware, any version.

    Open iTunes

    Connect iPod

    Hold Shift and hit restore

Find your firmware you just downloading

    cross your fingers.

EDIT: Going to bed now, have school tomorrow. Try my solution. When I get home I'll help you again if you need it.

Once again thanks for the quick reply. Can you be a little more clear. When you say plug it into your computer and hold the home button...should it be while itunes is open? should i hold home before i connect the usb? sorry
