    Was your iPod detected?
Maybe the cable wasn't well plugged

Did the screen turn on and showed a charging icon? If it did not, like what bulbuzor said, you should ensure that the charger is plugged-in properly and then try again... Otherwise, it could be a problem with either the charger or even the iPod itself...

Btw, is your charger the original Apple one or those 3rd-party clone products?

Did you try jailbreaking it before it died?

Or you could try another USB port. Mine was shot. Or a different PC. Maybe even a different cable. Oh, and make sure the contacts are clean. No dust or oil of any kind. Both ends of the cable AND the iPod. Leave it in for a few minutes, see what happens.
