So I am attempting to jailbreak my iPod touch. I have 1.1.2. I have read everything their is to read but what it all comes down to is every time I download the firmware it does not come in a nice lego looking like file. Instead I get a folder with everything inside of it.
Help is appreciated and I do apologize if I am repeating myself.

Uhm maybe try downloading from a different source... the firmware's extension must be .ipsw... just in case you didnt know =)... Good luck!

    Thanks.
I use Mac and yes when I download it, it automatically decompresses into a folder that is un-usable. Not sure how to keep it in zip form.

EDIT: Actually, I have figured it out and this may help other people as well. If your Mac automatically decompresses the .zip you can very easily right click the file and press compress to put it back into a zip file and just rename!

    No, Thank you!
    Haha come to the light!
Actually. I seem to have another problem...
While trying to downgrade my ipod it runs into some problem (1) and I have to restore it back to normal. What I am trying to say is it will not let me downgrade...

I'd be hesitant to do that. I know that iTunes verifies the firmwares via its checksums. That's why there is no Custom Firmware at the moment. If after compressing it, the file is so much as one bit off, iTunes will spit it right back out at you.

This will work as a temporary solution, but I wouldn't rely on it. I'm sure there are much better ways to take care of this problem, but since I don't have a Mac, I can't offer anything helpful here.

There must be an option on your computer to disable automatic unzip. You just need to find it.
