I have a video file on my computer, when i right click it, it acknowledges that it is a video file, it is 22 minutes and 180 mb.
When i try to play it in windows media player 11, i only hear the sound, and it plays it as if it were an audio file (with the animations that go to the beat of the music in the middle of the screen) and i hear the audio of the video i'm trying to play

if anyone can help, i would appreciate it

All AVI files are not created equal, you probably need DIVX.
