Although there are plenty of them, I was wanting to make a Cydia repo just because it sounded interesting. I was wanting a very simple howto.

    ----Server details------
OS: Ubuntu 8.10 (or 9.04 I cant remember)
    Desktop Edition
    1.8Ghz Intel
    762MB RAM
    DMZ'd with router based firewall
    ------------------------
    Any ideas?

Unless you want to pay for the server costs and not just steal other repo's and put them in yours i wouldn't bother

It's just for local use, but it has dual purpose; 1.) host packages for when I restore my iphone or ipod... 2.) Also, I want host a regular apt-get repo for ubuntu/debian

my first reason is because Gilmer cable sucks speed wise and has almost no bandwidth, much less any relibility....

If you are hosting packages from other repos, it will be a pain to keep them all up-to-date. It's possible, of course, but depending on your bandwidth it may not be practical.

Now thats its up and running, Ive gotten all 123 of packages are hosted locally for restores. Very helpful to setup a local repo for this type of use, but mine has too dirs; /var/www/local for me and another for friends
