was trying to upgrade firmware to 3.0 thru itunes 8.2

After the standard procedure which iTunes shows
Then iPod went blank. and iTunes shows
Yes... i had "sucessfully upgrade" my iPod to iPhone ??!!

at this point, if i click <Restore>, iTunes says:
and when i Shift-Click and select any older firmware, it says:
Now i put iPod into DFU mode, by holding <Power> + <Home> til disconnects and release <Power> only til iTunes detects again. Now it shows up correctly as iPod. (am i doing the DFU thingy right?) Note that all this while, iPod remains dead blank.

    clicking <Restore> brings me:
iPod screen turns white. apple logo appears. then...
progress bar starts to move below icon.
This is where iPod goes off... blank.
and i go back to square 1.

i tried countless times. when i shift-click in DFU & select older firmwares, iPod didn't even blink. no white screen, no logo. just nothing.
    iTunes shows:
    sometimes error (13) sometimes (2005)

what did i do wrong? pls help. thanks

Your firmware is obviously...well...Exploding? I don't know you're using a messed up version, just use the one posted above, it's not illegal if you've already bought it from iTunes.

thanks for the quick response. yup. did at those...

    downloaded 1.4, 2.0, 2.2, 3.0 from felixbrun.de. u named it.
in one instance, when i deleted the 3.0 in c:....Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates folder, iTunes downloaded the 3.0 when i just click <Restore>

installed iTunes at a apple-product-virgin PC in my office, same thing.

at any time, connected or not, charging form A/C or not, holding down whatever buttons on my iPod for whatever duration will not wake the comatose iPod.

any yes, it's ridiculous when whether itunes calls it iPod or iPhone, either way doesn't work.

i guess i'll try to find an older version of iTune and retry. any order 3rd party software that can restore firmware without iTunes?

    lol. good one.
it can only be turned on when connected. without cables, there's no way to turn it on. battery is charged, in case you r wondering.

i just uninstall 8.2 and will be installing 7.5. hopes something better happens. will revert.
