I have got the same problem. I'm on 2.1 jailbroken, i installed some apps and played with it for a while the i turned it off. When I put it in the dock to charge, because the battery was low, the screen was white. I tried to restart it (home-button + sleep-button) and connected it with the computer but it kept starting with a white screen.

Then I realized that my ipod was still working, i can unlock the home screen and with a little bit blind tapping i could activate wifi and ssh.

So is there anyway to fix this problem without restoring?

I'm sorry for my bad english.

i really think you should restore. if not, let the battery run dry and try to turn it on

I hope it's no hardware problem with the screen.

I'm now making a backup of my files through ssh.

It's still white after a fresh restore to 2.1
I can hear the sound when i unlock the homescreen, so the ipod is working.
Can this be a hardware damage? The screen is white all the time and just dims when unlock the homescreen.

Would Apple replace it? it's still under warranty for about a month.
Should i send it to Apple directly, or should i contact my reseller?

I'm in Germany and i bought it from an onlineshop 11 months ago.
