You should probably get that checked out with Apple.

The same thing happened to me.
I had my iPod clipped to my belt and I was actually eating chopped hot dogs w/ beans.

Anyway, I tipped the bowl like a dumbass and bean juice got all over my screen and stuff.
So I cleaned it off with a damp paper towel and I realized my home button was just like yours.
So, I took another damp paper towel and just vigorously scrubbed at the home button, and after like two seconds, I got it back.

... but then later that night I tried plugging headphones in, and it was stuck.
The bean sh*t dried in my headphone jack.

I had to go out at like 11:00 at night to CVS and get mini- Q-Tips.
    It was terrible.

    Anyway....
DAMP PAPER TOWEL IS YOUR SOLUTION

Get it checked out ASAP, the same thing happened last December with my 1G iPod touch, the home button eventually got jammed within 2-3 days, it was 2 weeks before the warranty expired so we brought it in and they replaced it, make an appointment first (I found that out the hard way).

Also, you can take a fine-pointed needle and just move it around the edges until it goes through.

Once your in, you can kind of like scrape out whatevers blocking it.
If theres no "obstructions", I'd get it checked out before it turns into a bigger problem.
