No you can't just magically get rid of them, it's plastic

try brasso, although it wil take some time. just apply some with a cotton pad or something, and wipe in a circular motion applying moderate pressure.

Toothpaste. Take a little, rub it in with some cotton lightly but firmly in a circular motion. Usually used for screens, but I dunno try it if you'd like.

i dont think toothpaste would work on the 3g because its plastic. i heard that you can take a piece of Banana and rub it and remove the scratches. has anyone tried this?

It worked on my LG EnV before I got my iPhone. Never hurts to try. I can't cuz I have a full body zagg on mine. Could always try googling for scratch removers for plastics. I actually got this thing I use on my car and it hid the minor scratches on my phone. I forgot what it's called but it's like this marker that draws on clear but hides any scratches nicely no matter the color. I'll have to check the name of it some time. Pricey tho.
