Or can i just download some sort of modding software to change themes, get games such as guitar hero etc. on my iPod

You need to Jailbreak it, meaning hack it with the jailbreak method. Jailbreaking it is the only way you can get your iPod to have those third-party apps like games and more. You can also get the apple apps for free after jailbreaking it.

there are tons of tutorials around here for the jailbreak.

    4. Open Safari and go to jailbreakme.com
    5. Scroll down and hit install appsnapp or something like that
    6. Go into installer and go to 1.1.1 tweaks and install oktoprep
    7. Hold Shift and hit Upgrade and select the 1.1.2 firmware.
    8. After upgrading download this file and hit jailbreak.jar http://[PIRACY.rs].com/files/87650690/1.1.2-jailbreak.zip.html
    9. Go to 1.1.3 discussion and look for a 1.1.3 jailbreak tutorial or stay at 1.1.2 jb (im staying at 1.1.2)
