hey everyone im a new member but ive been searching all day for this thing...haha i started off wanting to play some pokemon for literally like an hour or so but instead ive found that ive spent about 5 hours just trying to get my first step done...
aight so ive been trying to download this 2.1 firmware to my computer so i can use the (option+RESTORE) method of updating my ipod touch. i have no idea what ive been doing wrong because each time, it prepares itself in itunes, and then after about a minute, it sends a message saying "unknown error occurred (5)".
ive tried so many methods...whether its going through Ziphone or trying to update on another persons computer. im desperate and all i want to do is get this thing to work. if someone can give me as many, many, many answers as possible please do cause i havent seen anything new...please help!?!!

You need to get it into DFU mode first

is it the 1st generation ipod? or 2G?

oh well, if it is the 1G ipod touch, here's what you do. you said step by step.
make sure you follow the instructions carefully.

    1. open itunes, plug your ipod into the PC.
    2. when it is detected, hold the power and home button,
    3. wait until it is fully off, when the apple logo appears, release the power button,
    4. when the itunes logo appears, release the home button.
    5. now it is in DFU mode, if u fail, try the method again.
    6. shift+restore 2.1 (5F137) not 5F138

    wait until it's finished.

if u fail, youre doing something wrong, try it again.

    then jailbreak use quickpwn.

    good luck.

yo thanks this is the best help ive gotten literally all day. you specified the firmware i needed to get...i thought all the firmware i was getting was the same but for some reason they change the letters for different firmware. when you specified the "F" in the file, i was downloading the ones with "A"
    thanks for the help.
