Hi, when I try to SFTP into my ipod touch using WinSCP I get a "Network Error : Connection timed out" message (I also tried it with CuteFTP and I get a similar error). Thing is, my Ipod IS connected to the wi-fi network when I'm trying to access it (I've checked by streaming youtube and browsing the internet while attempting to connect).

So I was wondering, does my computer have to be connected wirelessly to the internet aswell (it's an old desktop and I don't have a USB device to enable wi-fi connections, atm I'm using an ADSL connection)? And if the answer is yes, is there anyway to get around the problem (other than to go out and buy a USB wi-fi connector/a laptop)?

No, you don't need to be wirelessly connected, however, your iPod does, as yours is. I have no idea what your problem is. I say you restore it?

OK, first of all don't restore.

That should only be used as a last resort.

When I SSH into my iPod, I am connected to the internet on my iPod and computer. I always assumed it was required, so I did it anyway and I have never had a problem.

Let's try to figure this out before we go restoring. You don't need to be connected wirelessly, just connected to the network.

Are you able to FTP at all? Do you get error messages right away or are you able to get into your iPod a little before the connection is dropped?

This may sound a tad dumb... but, is your iPod in sleep mode? xD
    Maybe that's the problem?...

Yeah I'm able to connect via FTP but then it freezes on "Waiting for a welcome message" and throws up a timeout error a couple of seconds later

    Oh sh....

So it's still running through \/this screen\/ and you cannot view any files on the iPod?

    Yeah it does:
    • Connecting to Host
    • Connected to host
    • Waiting for welcome message

And then throws up an error

Ok, that means that your iPod if connected fine. It could have something to do with the routers settings. But it did let you connect. I'm a little stumped here. It could have something to do with your network settings on your iPod. That's my guess. Since it's "waiting for welcome message", which i assume is from the iPod.
