So I am sitting here staring at my brand new 64GB iPod touch 4G in the box. Trying to find the willpower to keep it under wraps until my full body InvisibleShield arrives. I know I am probably worrying for nothing but I would hate to get even one small scratch on the screen before protecting it. Can I do it!? I sure hope so... I want to bust this thing open so bad and start filling it up!

IMHO, you don't need to worry about scratches. Another thread discussed the fact that the screen, made of glass, ranks at about 6 on the Moh's hardness scale, while a steel nail comes out at about 5. So basically, as long as you don't rub some kind of gem on the screen, you should be fine. My advice: don't put it in your pocket or a bag or anything until the protector arrives just in case. I've been carrying mine in my pocket for a few days with no scratches though

Just take it out of the box, i doubt it will get damaged while you are syncing it unless something dramatically happens.

People like you make me laugh.

Open it up. It's not a big deal. Just don't put it in your pocket.

Make sure to keep it on a pillow when setting it down!

I had a generic invisible shield lying around so I cut it into shape and it covers 85% of the front. For the back I did something interesting, I kept the iPod strapped to the big piece of plastic that it comes packaged in and I just cut out the fake iPod screen part so I can see. It's actually not that bad as far as protection for something temporary. It ain't that pretty though, but the only time I'll take it outside is to the gym for now so its no big deal.

If you are worried about the front, trust me, the thing is very difficult to scratch. The back on the other hand, scratches if you just look at it.
