I got a new screen and fixed my ipod 1st gen jailbroken, and now it wont work correctly. I think the firmware corrupted. Whenever I tried to turn it on, it turns off halfway into the boot by itself. I tried to restore it by putting it into DFU mode but it gets a 1604 error code everytime. Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Try This Method.

Option one is to reset ur ENV using iRecovery command lines.
Option two is to fix the 160x errors. Now i can easily restore.

Stuck In Recovery Mode Fix (option 1)

    clearenv 1
    setenv auto-boot true
    saveenv
    fsboot
    reboot

    Fix error 1604 (option 2)

make sure all instances of itunes related is closed.
    Connect ipod touch to computer.
Put to DFU Mode and open up itunes ( it should say ipod is in recovery )
do a shift+restore to firmware of choice, (i did this from 2.1.1 to 2.2.1)
wait until ipod touch turns to white ( Preparing to Restore )
then CTRL+Alt+Delete (open up task manager)
Close off Itunes.exe and IpodService.exe (itunes should close while ipod is still in recovery)
Quickly Switch USB Port of Ipod Touch to other port.
Open up itunes ( it should say ipod is in recovery )
then now do a Shift+Restore again and it should work.

    goodluck

my ipod is not recognized. if i open i funbox or like iBoot or something, it says that its not recognized. but if i open it in itunes and restore it, it has some progress and then on the third progress bar filling up, it stops and says "ipod touch could not be restored, 1604 error"
