I've just joined the forums so I'm new here. I don't own any iProducts yet but I'm hoping you won't hold that against me

I'm actually thinking about buying an iPod Touch when the next generation comes out (September 2010 as I'm told). Which brings me to my question.

Last year I bought my Dad a 16gb 5th gen nano for his birthday. Over the past week I've been borrowing it quite a bit to listen to the radio which got me wondering since the iPod touch has the hardware to get FM radio, but not the software, could it simply be added to the next update (for example OS 5.0?)
Also, is this the same situation with the bluetooth function too?

Thanks in advance, it'll be nice to meet you all

Welcome and don't forget to read the rules!

In replie to your question, I'm quite sure apple will finally put a system app called 'radio' In there next OS for the use of radio (obviously) and Ipods from 2nd gen up have bluetoth already so i don't really understand your second question.

Thanks for the answer, and about bluetooth I was under the impression that some of the functionality of bluetooth wasn't activated or something? I thought it had yet to be fully functional.
    Thanks again

Apple is a very closed company. So the bluetooth functionality is limited.

im pretty sure there is an app (might be only on cydia) but it allows you to use your bluetooth to full capacity.

im not sure what your asking about the radio, but ill answer it based on what I think your asking...
the radio could become a standard in ipod, but for now, there are tons of apps on the app store that have the functionality

FM radio has not YET been activated. It has a FM chip on all but the 1g models. Bluetooth is very limited on iPods because Apple is very limited to everyone, which is why we jailbreak

If the 2nd Generation is no longer supported, why would they have not added the software update for the FM chip?

Hi everyone and thanks for the answers so far. Sorry if I wasn't clear, what I meant about the radio is that it already has the hardware so the radio can be activated by apple whenever they feel like it right?
    Thanks again

^ Yup, anything that's possible that they don't already have enabled can be enabled by them at any time they wish.
