Has anyone considered modifying LibUSB?

    But really. It is open source software, so I don't see why some skilled programmer couldn't take it and make it more compatible with Vista and what not. I would say that it shouldn't be overly hard, just fix some issues there in, and perhaps remove MS-DOS compatibility, which may help solve some issues. The source can be downloaded here.

    Or why not take it and programe it into iRecovery so then you dont need to install it because its already part of it.

    You can't do that on Windows, you need a driver to communicate with things at a hardware level.
    Sure, you can statically link the library so that the .dll isn't required, but the driver still is.

    You still need to install LibUSB, believe me; I already statically linked the library and the driver is still required.

    Quite similar to that. I'm presuming that you should be able to use that in place of LibUSB, right?
