I need a laptop for my next school and I need it to be around £500 or below. I want it to dual boot between Windows 7 and Snow Leopard/Leopard. I have found 2 laptops that I think would work.

    TOSHIBA Satellite L650-12P - £550

    Processor Intel® Core™ i5-430M Processor
    - 2.26 GHz
    - 4.8 GT/s DMI
    - 3 MB L3 Cache
Operating System Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium
    RAM - 2GB installed DDR3 RAM
Graphics card Integrated Intel® GMA HD
    Screen type Widescreen LCD
    Screen resolution - WXGA
    - 1366 x 768 pixels
    Hard drive 250 GB SATA
Optical disk drive DVD Rewriter with dual layer support
    Memory card reader Yes
    USB 3 x USB 2.0 ports
    FireWire No
    Modem/Ethernet 1 x RJ-45 Ethernet port
    Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n WLAN
    Bluetooth No
    Sound Built-in speakers - Dolby® Advanced Audio
Keyboard & Mouse Multi-Touch Touch Pad

    and

    ACER Aspire 5740-G110 Laptop - £450

    Processor Intel® Core™ i5-430M Processor
    - 2.26 GHz
    - 2.5 GT/s DMI
    - 3 MB L3 Cache
Operating System Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium
    RAM 4GB installed DDR3 RAM (1066 MHz)
Graphics card ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 - 512 MB dedicated video memory
    Screen type Widescreen LCD
    Screen resolution WXGA - 1366 x 768 pixels
    Hard drive 500GB SATA
Optical disk drive 8X DVD-Super Multi double-layer drive
Memory card reader Multi-in-1 card reader (SD™, MMC, MS, MS PRO, xD)
    USB 4 x USB 2.0 ports
    FireWire No

    Bluetooth No
    Webcam Yes

Which one is more suited to hackintosh? I'm liking the look of the ACER.

Do the processors support DDR3? (or something like that?)

Er... What do you mean by DDR3? I'm a bit n00bish at this.

OK looked it up and they both support DDR3... What ever it is...

Laptops dont do too well in terms of Hackintosh...netbooks and desktop rigs do better tho.
Well both won't boot Snow Leopard easily at least not at the moment. The GFX card is the problem. there aren't any kext for both. Only some tricky workarounds without hardware acceleration and stuff...not worth it. I'd wait until one of them is supported or go for another laptop

Damn. Thanks for telling me though. Do you know any laptops that run SL/L easily?

You can take the Acer , and search at google for iDeneb 1.6 or SnowLeopard by Hazard. Does 2 distros should work withour any problems on the Acer notebook.

    Err dangerous false information
1.) iDeneb 1.6 = OS X Leopard (NOT Snow Leopard!!!)
2.) NO, the ACER is NOT supported since it has an ATi HD 5xxx series GPU. This series is still not supported by Snow Leopard even not with the newest update the 10.6.4
see changelog: http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/06/mac-os-x-1064-update.html there it says
This means there isn't ANY distro which can/will support this GFX card series. A kext for this series has to be released by Apple before a hackintosh can use them.

To the dual boot thing: don't worry there are dozens of tutorials about this and there are also dozens of ways from easy to difficult to do it

First at all check the HCLs yourself and buy a supported rig

I'd found the problem GFX when you mentioned it. And Apple seem to be nVIDIA now so I'm screwed. :/

I shall carry on in my quest to make a hackintosh...

EDIT: WiFi looks to be a b*tch on hackintosh...
