this is probably not possible, but its a cool idea. if i'm on verizon is it possible to somehow switch my phone's data mode into "broadcasting" or something so that other devices can use the data connection so i can use the data connection from my phone on my ipod touch?

Does the iPod touch have a 3G modem?

    Errrrrr...Wrong.

FruitRocks: What you are thinking about is some way to make your phone emit a wifi signal for your Touch to connect to and use the phones data plan for internet on the Touch.

Unfortunately, this can only be done on Windows Mobile smart phones. If you have happen to have one, then Google "how to turn my windows mobile phone to wifi hot spot." IF you dont have one, then you are pretty much SOL.

The only possibility (which is what im really hoping for because im in the same boat as you) is when bluetooth is unlocked on the Touch, is if someone will happen to find a why to hack the bluetooth and make it possible for you to tether the Touch to your phone through bluetooth and share the phones datat connection that way. Right now people are already working on this and making a good amount of progress.

The only downside is, if you are unwilling to jailbreak your iPod like i am, then you will have to make a decision to either have this ability never be made available to you or just go for it and jailbreak the Touch. In my eyes, jailbreaking it for that one feature alone outweighs every thing else.

Requires a compatible smartphone with wifi though.
