i have installed 3.0 and then went for the process to downgrade....

tried many times downgrading with diff itunes version (7.7.1, 8.0, 8.2) every time i get the error 20

now when i start ipod only screen with itunes + usb appears. When pressed standby for long time, the shut down screen comes up with lock sign at the top.

someone help me restore to 2.2.1

Yes because if you have not, it's not gonna work. Especially if your using a downgraded version of iTunes, it won't recognize what 3.0 is and result in an error (because 3.0 wasn't out when that version of iTunes was out)

EDIT: Try putting it in normal restore mode then try restoring it.
