How to get around the 3rd party application limit -
ONLY ATTEMPT IF YOU HAVE SOME KNOWLEDGE OF THE SSH/TERMINAL PROMPT.
    AS EVER, BACK UP FIRST.

    Stolen blatantly from: swedishviking (http://www.ifans.com/forums/showpost.php?p=31612&postcount=15)
Formatted to fit with my other guide: http://www.ifans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8404
Warning: I suggest against having this operation in effect when upgrading/jailbreaking to 1.1.2. It seems to be causing some problems. Just back up your applications data to your computer, upgrade/jailbreak, then copy it back, THEN follow these steps. These steps are still perfectly OK to do if you have 1.1.2, or 1.1.1 (and don't intend to upgrade with the settings in effect).

Note: This guide assumes the level of familiarity with WinSCP that you would get from my previous guide.

    1) Open up WinSCP and log into your iPod touch.

    2) Press Ctrl+t or click Commands -> Open Terminal to... open the terminal.

    3) You may get a box saying something like "Currect SFTP-3 session does not blah blah". Just click OK, and wait for the console to open.

    4) Type the following commands in, pressing enter after each. You may have to wait a few seconds after each command.

    mv /Applications /private/var/Applications
cd / (there is a space there. Just copy and paste these.)
    ln -s /private/var/Applications Applications
    ls -la

You should see an entry that looks something like lrwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 25 Oct 12 22:31 Applications -> /private/var/Applications. If you do, you have done this correctly.

    5) Reboot your ipod (Power off and back on) and you are all set!

Oh no. FIrst time Ive ever had a problem. After doing this, My ipod won't boot

I get the apple and then it looks like it is trying to load springboard. It alternates between the Apple, and the little "loading" icon.

Just got it to re-boot with 2 buttons, the apple scren sat for about 2 minutes, now it is on a black sreen with the "loading" icon circling in the middle.

I AM able to SSH into the ipod. ANything I can do other than a full restore? please?

Edit: I SSH'd into the ipod, and tried executing the 4 commands again. The first one gave me an error, but when I ran the last 3 commands, my ipod booted up

I don't know what I could have done wrong the first time, as I just copied and pasted your commands. Anyways, I am up and running again.

Rawd, when I first did it, I got an error after my first command, so I didnt bother with the rest. I looked at my iPod, and ALL of my icons were gone. I kinda freaked out. I then went and did the 4 commands again, and it all worked out, lol.

    Device:
    2G iPod touch
i put in the first command and this is what i get..

    mv: /bin/: Permission denied
    mv: /bin/: terminated with 1 (non-zero) status: Cross-device link

i tried the 2nd and is says 'cd not foun'
i tried the third and it showed nothing...
i tried the 4th and it says 'ls not found'

i tried clicking the applications folder in the root and it leads me directly to the folder /private/var/applications but the icon on the root does not have a 'link' shown in it unlike the var or etc on the root...

    is it already linked???

    Same problem :-/
Any problem in 1.1.1 but i have the same error after the 1.1.2 jailbreak

edit : i think we need to do something in the /bin/, copy some files ('ls' for example)
Edit 2: i install BSD Subsystem from Installer and now 'ls' works
But i have an error when i want to move Applications dir :
    Code:
    # mv /Applications /private/var/Applications
mv: inter-device move failed: `/Applications' to `/private/var/Applications/Applications'; unable to remove target: Operation not permitted
