Moments ago, i experienced something along these lines.

    Ipod crashed.
    Forced to turn it off.
    Went to go boot it.
Computer didn't even say "Cannot Recognise Devise".
    Freaked Out.
Jammed the forum with a "IPod seems lifeless. Tell me how it's not bricked" thread. (shame on me)

I tried a few things, and in some scenarios these ideas might work:

    1.Using a different USB port
    or
    2.Using a different cord
    or
    3.Disabling then Enabling USB ports
    or
    4.Using different Boot tools

None of these worked for me.

So I started tinkering. And guess what I found out. And it was unbelievably obvious.

    IT WAS LIBUSB!

If you are having a problem like I did, please follow these steps if the concepts above didn't work for you:

    1. Find your LibUSB file
    2. Uninstall every trace of LibUSB you have in your documents.
    3. Install this file from the internet (sorry, couldn't remember the link)
    libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.12.1.exe
DO NOT OPEN IT AND INSTALL LIBUSB
    4. Restart your computer
    5. Find that file that you downloaded, and NOW open it up and install LibUSB
    6. Once that finishes, restart your computer once again
    7. Wait a few minutes and plug in your device
    8. The message "Cannot Recognise Device" might or might not pop up
(it's ok if it doesn't because it didn't for me)
    9. Start your Boot tool and put your ipod into DFU
10 Allow it to boot up (obviously)

And you must restart your computer the second time. I experimented a little bit and thats the only way it worked for me.

And please note that I have Windows XP, so I don't know how it will run on Vista 32bit, Vista 64bit, or Mac, so please consider that before doing this.

I hope this will help anyone out there who has had the same problem as me (and I know there's a lot out there).

    Good luck,

    sn0w

Yeah me too, it's about time the forum stops getting flooded like this.
