    [Guide] Wallpaper + Multitasking on 3G Jailbroken iOS4 GM / Final

    *UPDATE*: This still works for iOS4 Final / GM Version!!

    Allright Guys, this is a easy Steap how you activate the functions that Apple Disabled on the 3G.

    That will just work if youre Jailbroken cause you need OpenSSH to replace a File.

    So as already some of you know you can activate Multitasking by adding or editing the N82AP.plist file with the Line.

    <key>multitasking</key>
    <true/>
    Some of you might not have this line so you just have to add it into the File. After rebooting the Phone you got Multitasking enabled.

    So what i found in the 3GS .plist file is this.
    <key>homescreen-wallpaper</key>
    <true/>

    Wich activates Backgrounds. So i added this too to my Phone and after rebooting voila backgrounds without Winterboard

    Here are some proving screens.

    So to make it easier for you , you can download the .plist file in the attachment and replace it at your phones folder at:

    /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app

    Hope you got more fun with that, and btw. it runs fine with my RAM on the 3G . No crashing no nothing.

    Cheers

    Um.. no. This is for OS 4.0.

    But a couple of notes on the guide. Apparently, Springboard wallpapers were added to OS 4.0 beta 2 on iPhone 3G/iPod Touch 2G. Also, the only reason why it ran fine with no crashes is because it's not actually multitasking. No 3rd party apps have been updated to support multitasking, so when you see them on the multitasking dock, they're not actually running. Just because it's running fine now, it doesn't mean it'll run fine when all the apps get updating to be able to run in the background.

    It is actually Multitasking, and my guide shows how to activate it. I cant update the apps to do the "actual" multitasking, i just show the way how to enable it.

    I know that, but in your guide, you say that it runs fine on your iPhone 3G and no crashes. If you open an app (app from the App Store), then close it, then open the multitasking dock, and run the app again, you'll see that it has to load everything again. That means that the app isn't running in the background, which is why your iPhone can handle it right now.

    I know that, but its the basic.
    The fact that this isnt possible at B1 is not my fault. There is no b2 JB and also the B2 is completly broken.

    But i would call it Semi-Multitasking cause you cann still switch through the Apps even if its completly starting again

    I would remove that plist you've uploaded, Copyrighted Apple code is not allowed on here. :\

    Just wondering. Would this work for the iPod Touch 2G? And is it likely it will be made into a Cydia app when 4.0 turns official?
