whenever I try to press the start button, the emulator crashes and sends me to the home screen. I have tried everything, and yes, it is a clean rom. What do I do???

TO mr exile - yes I have, but thats a good idea, i'll try to get a different one and see if it works then.
To tootricky - pokemon fire red, and the start button that opens the menu in a standard pokemon game, the one in the middle of the screen.
UPDATE: Yeah, i changed bios, reinstalled gpSPhone, got differents roms, the whole shibang.
    any other suggestions?
