is ther such thing as an app where i can have gps on my ipod touch withouth internet/wifi?
no. the touch does not have the hardware for this.....
Well. I think that if you open google maps and set your directions while you still have wifi then leave the wifi area you can follow the directions and look on the map. I'm not positive but I think it should work.
On 3.0, there's a blue navigation dot on maps that knows where you're at at all times. Only problem is, you have to download the map first, or else you'll have a blue dot stranded in nowhere.
How do you know if it's still in the same place, but the map isn't loaded? Please Register or Log in to view images
The iPod touch doesn't have GPS hardware in it... It's impossible.
Unless you use a phone with 3G as a router (WMWifiRouter for WindowsMobile)
Then maybe it'll work. But only if you keep tapping the location button.
P.S. What do you call something like that? It can't be called a button.... Please Register or Log in to view images

That's kind of like asking can you have internet without a modem/router/wifi or whatever... Please Register or Log in to view images
That's what I thought. I downloaded a map....of course I was out in the middle of know where. That little blue dot moved whenever I moved. I couldn't get a wifi connection because again, i was out in the middle of farm fields and stuff.
Not sure how it was possible but that dam little blue dot moved with me every five minutes or so.
The ipod touch triangulates your position by using WiFi spots instead of routers. It is mostly geometry. Please Register or Log in to view images
Yes....it can be done with a gps module.
I used it around my area, so I already had the map downloaded and cached. and I knew because the blue dot kept moving every time I moved, it was pretty awesome. I agree with Sreejon, I think the touch uses nearby WiFi spots to locate its location.
