Ok I tried restoring after jailbreaking because I installed all three accidentally (cydia, icy, and rock) and it said preparing to restore ipod for awhile.

Then I got the 16XX error and now my ipod isn't detected by itunes and it has a black screen (it's on). I tried holding home for a little bit that didn't work. I'm afraid to do anything else.

    What should I do?

Yah I figured that out. But there are sometimes where the ipod actually can brick. I know like 80% of the time you can just DFU but...idk...I spent 200 bucks on this I don't want to lose it.

Now I still have the 16XX errors and have no idea to get rid of them.

umm it is technechly imposible to soft-brick an ipod touch/iphone because DFU is stored on the ROM(read only memory). not even apple can change that.

I managed to get 16xx errors when trying to restore to a jailbroken 3.1 ipsw in DFU mode from 3.01 JB'ed.... and after it failed I couldn't boot normally- or even power down the ipod into its "OFF" state.

    Here's what you do:

go into DFU and restore to an OFFICIAL 3.0 or 3.01 ipsw
    jailbreak using redsn0w
make a new jailbroken 3.1.2 ipsw with pwnagetool3.1.4
shift-restore to it IN RECOVERY MODE, not DFU [DFU will give you 16xx, and Recovery mode will not on an already jailbroken system]

recovery mode= turn off ipod, and plug into PC while holding down home button
