I got my girlfriend an iPod Touch for her birthday, but found that it inexplicably didn't come with a Google Maps application, and that maps.google.com doesn't work well on the Touch Safari browser. She really wanted to use Google Maps on the Touch, so I wrote my own interface for it using the maps API here:

The coolest thing is that you can drag the map around by using two fingers! You can also search for directions, find local businesses, etc. You can read more about its implementation here:

    http://www.grapier.com/mapsfaq.html

The code is checked in here:

    http://code.google.com/p/ipod-touch-maps

Feel free to check it out! I'd love some comments. Enjoy!

    Great job, works great!

If you can find a copy of the iPhone's Google maps, you can use that on a jailbroken iPod touch.

i would seriously suggest you jailbreak your ipod and install the iphone Maps.app. its 100X better than this website.

Yes, though my girlfriend was reluctant to jailbreak her iPod Touch, so I had to work around that...

Two-finger-drag is a cute trick to at least do some dragging gestures in Safari on the Touch. Otherwise none of the drag gestures are really exposed to web apps.

This is quite a good web app of Google Maps for people who don't want to jailbreak their iPods. The two-fingered map scrolling was a bit awkward at times because the iPod also tried to kick in its normal vertical scrolling when it sensed one finger with more pressure than the other, but it works.
