This is a discussion thread for the "Google Maps For iOS Downloaded 10,000,000 Times" story posted on the front page.
I disagree. While I think that Google Maps is the better app at this point, there are many that still prefer Apple Maps (John Gruber of Daring Fireball is one, Jim Dalrymple of The Loop is another), while this is also a huge market of people that will continue using Apple Maps because its a native app and they either can't be bothered to download Google Maps from the App Store or don't know of its existence.
I have to say Google Maps is great. The images are sharper, but I prefer Apple's interface for their maps app over Google Maps. Is Apple maps a fail, yes. Will it die out? I doubt it. Apple is serious about Apple maps, and will no doubt have a great maps system in a couple years.
I still like Apple Maps' interface and the fact that it overlays on the locksreen. If Google Maps overlayed on the locksreen it would make it the winner for me
God damn, lol. That was fast. Not only was Apple furious about the whole maps situation, but with people switching back to GoogleMaps, this means Apple has far less people to help improve Apple Maps.
But 10 million people isn't the whole iOS 6 base. The majority of people that have upgrade will still have Apple maps (currently)
