Got an email from sparrow today saying they have been acquired by google. This is from the public announcement found here: Kind of sucks they will only be providing critical updates and support and not new features as I was hoping they would get around to at least adding push notification support to the iOS app, doubly so now that they are part of google and have the resources to make it happen but still won't. Still an awesome app though and sparrow+ gets the job done so I guess I can't complain too much.
