I wanted to buy an iPod touch and had several questions before I went out to get one in a day or two.

    1) Am I better off to wait for the rumored "3G"? I want to jailbreak, so I figured getting a 2G was best for now anywho.

    2) Is Jail-breaking risky, then? It doesn't seem like it. A lot of people appear to be unable to follow a guide it seems. However, I'd just like confirmation that something isn't wrong with the jail-breaking kit.

3)Is anyone familiar with battery life rates with certain tasks? I wanted to watch YouTube occasionally, go on facebook for 5-10 minutes every hour and have music going at the same time. Emulation, specifically NES and GameBoy battery lifes?

It'd be appreciated if anyone could take time out of their day and help me out. It would mean a lot. Is there anything I should know before purchasing a touch?

    Regards,
    Vaughands

    1) I suggest you wait, the dev team is good at making new jailbreaks for new devices.

    2) Jailbreaking is not risky at all... if you fail, restore and try again.

    3) I dont really know specifics about the battery.

    2. No, it won't be available right away for the 3g

    3. The 3g will definitly have better battery life.... emulators take a lot out of the battery

Thanks for the quick responses, everyone! Is there a good reason to be waiting for a 3G then or an estimated time they will be released?

I would go with the 3G if it does come out because even if they do not find a jailbreak for it you will still have the whole App Store which is a good enough alternative. I haven't jailbroken my iPod since firmware 1.1.3 which was a while back so.

    1) Yes, big time. If you don't want one, the 2G will have dropped in price.

    2) Absolutely worry free. Simple ways to fix ur failure, like ZombieKiller said.

    3) The battery in the 2G fails for apps and movies, music will last FOREVER on one charge (not literally but it lasts a really long time, I think like 22 hours). I do hope, however, that they improve the battery in the 3G

Let me know if this helps at all!

Whoa! Thanks for the quick responses guys! So I'm best off waiting till around the 9th or so and seeing what happens? You think they'll announce a price drop as soon as the iPod 3G goes on sale?
