Ugh, this always happens when I do something new, it seems frustratingly hard! And usually it ends up that I overlooked something simple.

Anyway, if anybody could help me with jailbreaking this thing I'd really really appreciate it.

Here is everything I have done so far. I have downloaded both redsn0w and quickpwn. Well, after realizing quickpwn doesn't work for the 2g touch, I went back to try redsn0w again. I already reset my touch with a IPSW file that I found online, but whenever I try to get any jailbreaking program to recognize that IPSW file it says it's not valid or unrecognized, etc.

    Any suggestions?

BTW, I'm sure I seem super retarded right about now to you pros, but I'm truly a n00b when it comes to i-anything.

Hope I didn't post this in the wrong place...

    What version is the IPSW?

    Redsn0w works with 2.x i believe.

    1_2.2.1

I'm not sure if that one in the beginning counts or not. I was assuming that it didn't. Maybe I was wrong?

The exact file name is iPod2,1_2.2.1_5H11a_Restore.ipsw

haha, not that I can't, but I'm usually more comfortable in a gui setting.

Anyway, I'm about to give it a try. Before I do though, I must ask, is there any way I can irreparably screw up my ipod with this?

That '1' at the beginning means that the firmware file is for a first generation.

Wow, I knew I made a stupid mistake somewhere. It's crazy, there is so much misinformation going around about how to jailbreak on teh googles...

Anyway, at least my ipod still has 2.2.1 on it (though I doubt it could go lower).

Man, I hate being new at things

While many people say Google is your friend, it really isn't. iPodtouchFans is the best place to come when you need help regarding jailbreaking.

2.2.1 can be downgraded (to 2.2), but it is pointless.

Don't worry, we were all new once.

Back to my previous question though, is there any way I can totally brick my ipod with redsn0w? I'm just slightly paranoid here, but I'm sure a lot of jailbreaking n00bs have some trepidation.

No. It is impossible to brick your ipod unless you physically throw a brick at it.

Redsn0w is a two step jailbreak with just DFU mode then it does it.

    5-10 min and your done.

Even tells you what to do in the .exe
