My app store icon says there is 4 updates, but itunes says there is no updates? If i update through wifi do i have to retransfer the updated apps to itunes again?

You can just update them on the appstore on your iPod and they will load on the springboard as well as replace the old versions so you don't have doubles. I had the same problem and I pressed update all on appstore and let it sit for 10 min. worked fine.

I'm not sure about that , but I think that you would just have to re-install and then you would get an up-to-date version. But I'm not really sure.

EDIT: Well I checked iTunes and it doesn't look like they automatically update, and I am pretty sure there is no way that you can retransfer like you were talking about.
So my best guess is that you will have to update on the iPod always for that app when you reinstall.

I think you can just always update via the mobile Appstore and it will give you the most current update on there, as you will be able to install the originals that you bought.

Well on your iTunes, the Apps that you have already bought will be there always (Unless your computer gets screwed up) so I think you can just use those as backup and if you ever have to restore you can sync those originals again and then the mobile appstore will allow you to update to whatever version is current. If that makes sense.
