The Apple hardware lineup for 2008 has been solidified since October with the introduction of the new MacBooks and they have stated this as a fact.
That means that the iPhone probably won't see an update until at least MacWorld, which is the end of January (I don't see this as being very likely).
We could even see an announcment as late as WWDC in June, much like we did with the iPhone 3G.
There is no guarantee that it will update any time soon. Take for instance, the Apple LCD screens. The average time span for an update is (Avg = 230). However, it has been 600 days since the last update of these screens. But most likely, this is not going to be the case for the iPhone. Yet, I do not it will come for another few months or more.
