Last month, I took an in-depth look at AviiQ's CES award-winning Portable Laptop Stand for laptops in the 13" to 17" range. Its unique folding design and sleek aluminum appearance gave it a highly favorable review. Its $59.99† price tag, however, wasn't so great.

Then, last week, AviiQ released the less expensive and similar looking Portable Quick Stand for laptops up to 17" in size. I've got my hands on these stands and will be assessing whether or not it has the same award-winning characteristics as its more expensive counterpart!

Design

The AviiQ (pronounced a-veek) Portable Quick Stand has a unique triangular folding design that makes it very portable and great for on-the-go use. You can bring the stand with you wherever you go, use it, and fold it up when you’re done. The stand, made of a patented material called Hylite, is extremely lightweight and flexible while still maintaining enough durability to support a laptop without question. It measures in at less than 1/4" in thickness and weighs 5.5 ounces.

The laptop rests on the stand at an angle of about 12 degrees, which AviiQ claims to be great from an ergonomic standpoint. After trying out the stand, it does offer good typing posture that alleviates the wrist pain that I sometimes experience when using my laptop on a flat surface. This angle also allows for the laptop to be raised two inches off of the surface beneath it, allowing for better airflow, and subsequently allowing for the laptop to run cooler and more efficiently.

If you are sitting, it is best to use the stand in this position

Asides from having a good ergonomic design, this stand is also equally as well designed from an aesthetics point of view. In short, this stand looks great. It has a very sleek and shiny design that is made out of thin aluminum sheets molded together by flexible silicone plastic. You can get the stand in five different colors: onyx black, cadet grey, chartreuse green, cerulean blue, and magenta.

If you are standing, it is best to use the stand in this position

The only fault in this stand's design occurs when there is no laptop placed on it. Without this added weight, the stand doesn't sit very flat on a surface and "pops up" instead. According to AviiQ, this is a purposeful feature to prevent mishandling and to allow for easier storage. I still think it's just a design flaw, but it's only minor anyways.

I really like this price point that AviiQ is offering, as they have listened to customers opinions about some of their other pricey products. If you live outside of the United States, however, you'll be more than disappointed to hear about AviiQ's $30 flat rate for all international shipping orders. That's crazy! The company does claim to be working on getting a more cost-effective shipping solution in place.

This stand is great for work, school, home, or travel. It's great anywhere, really, because of its portable convenience. Shove it in a bag even, whatever works for you. AviiQ has a 30-day money back guarantee in case you are not completely satisfied with your purchase. Do I recommend it? Absolutely.
