I just got a new Ipod Touch and Im a newbie at this. I just did the jailbreak for 2.2 and now I want to put apps and games on it. I installed openSSH and tried ftping into my Ipod but I can never login. It never can login and always gives a request timeout. I was wondering if theres an issue since Im using the latest firmware? Do I need to downgrade to 1.1.3 to install apps? Or can I do it using 2.2?

Use WinSCP instead of FTP client... it's SFTP not FTP

Oh... and you don't need file transfer to install games... legally.

theres a new app on the 2.x firmware called "app store". you can get really good apps for your new iPod touch there.

You NEED 2.2 to add the current Jailbreak Applications. And NEED 2.X along with an iTunes account to get App Store Apps and Games.
