I bought my iPod touch two hours ago and I've spent every minute since totally baffled. Quite simply, it doesn't work!

I've downloaded a new version of iTunes. My iPod is connected to my PC through a USB cable, but it's not having it.

When I try to turn on the iPod, I get a symbol of the USB cable with an arrow pointing towards the iTunes icon. Pressing the screen or the other button does nothing, and after five or so seconds the screen goes blank.

What the hell is going on?!

I did that when I got the new version of iTunes, and that seemed to work. But now I get the message:

THIS IPOD CANNOT BE USED BECAUSE THE APPLE MOBILE DEVICE CANNOT BE STARTED.

    ?!?!

There's nothing wrong with the arrows - it's the Indian who's firing them

How should I download the tracks from my iTunes on to my iPod?

Anyone able to help me through what should be a simple procedure, but what is turning out to be a nightmare?

I've had a couple of error messages when I've connected the iPod to the USB port. What's going on here, I don't know.
