you firmware should be something like Ipod2,1_3.1.2.ipsw.zip. correct?

just delete the .zip extension after the file. leave the .ipsw extension.

you said that you unzipped it. i assume that you are using Windows. i dont use windows but im pretty sure that by default it hides know extensions. (ex. .zip) you you know how to turn that off do that. if not just deleting all the extensions so you have "iPod2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore" then re-add the .ipsw.

You probably unzipped it already. Find the original zip file, not the folder named iPod2,1_3.1.2_7d11_Restore.ipsw. Delete that folder, just take the zip off the end of the zip. ipsw is just kind of a zip format. And I use Windows- it automatically shows file extensions.

Alternatively, you can, you know, actually download it from iTunes and not have this issue.

download it again with Mozilla Firefox, and it should be with the default ipsw extension
