This is a discussion thread for the "Get This: Rust is What Makes iPods Colorful " story posted on the front page.
Title is misleading. Rust isn't what makes the iPods colorful... it's the DYE. Rust just helps keep the dye in place (by storing the dye in the honeycomb cylinders) and the aluminum provides infrastructure. Didn't the author watch the video before creating the title? LOL
That's brilliant. Pretty sure this also removes all possibility of chipping paint, since there is no paint.
Anyone having taken basic chemistry should know this. It's a very old process though and has been used long before Apple started using it.
The author knows what attracts attention. They're not gonna put "Apple uses dye to make color," because that's idiotic. It's not a big deal. You obviously got the connotation.
