iTunes > Store > View My Account > "Recommendations and Ping Posting: Manage Panel" > Genius On

    Enjoy!

Sorry, am I missing something? When I click on 'Manage Panel' there is no mention of a 'Genius On' button - only a random message about Ping notifications. What have I done wrong?

I have the same problem. I noticed there is a Ping section that says "Ping: On". Does that need to be turned off also?

I've really only had luck with Genius -once-. When it reccomended Cepia's "Dowry" album. Other than that, any kind of song with distorted guitar just tries to tell me to listen to Slipknot and Metallica.

Absolutely right! But that doesn't bring the sidebar back. Is it actually possible?
