Well all because he doesn't want to deal with ignorant haters like @Virtualball, he got sick of people like you calling him those things. He did do a lot for the jailbreaking community.

Oh lord, please don't call me a "hater." The guy did great things but frankly, he's a dick. So, let me get this straight. he faked a picture of a jailbreak (and if you don't believe that, he axctually created a jailbreak) so people would go to his blog and talk about him. THEN he "retired" from jailbreaking, thus people talked about him. Now, he needlessly deleted his website/twitter. he could've just stopped logging on, but nope, he HAD to do it so people would talk about him.
After his conferences, his TV appearances, his face on every blackra1ned phone, his numerous bouts with other developers, and more made me believe he's an attention seeker. Try and argue with me..

I'm with Virtualball on this one. He could have very easily just stopped responding to people and stopped keeping his site and other forms of communication up-to-date, but instead he had to try and stir up as much controversy over his "retirement" as he possibly could. He's done amazing things for the jailbreaking community, but he let it get to his head more than others.

He may be an "attention seeker", but he knew the iPhone/iPod touch inside and out. His jailbreak, Blackra1n, was one of the best jailbreaks I have ever seen. He has every right to "retire" from the jailbreak community. All he got was "Where is the untethered jailbreak?!", "Where is the unlock?!". So he decided to stop. I mean would you want to be bombarded by trolls 24/7, I don't think so.
