Hi. I did search, but all related results seem related to jailbroken Ipod's, which mine is not.
My 32gb has worked fine, but tonight, it showed as having no music or video files, when there should have been loads. The apps were there and working fine. I tried restoring. Itunes downloaded the firmware again, but when it installed it, it said that the Ipod could not be restored. The Ipod went blank and has not recovered since. When I connect it to the PC, it says that the USB device has malfunctioned and connot be recognized.
    Any ideas?

what i do is first i terminate the 2 processes:
"ipodservice.exe" and "AppleMobileDeviceService.exe" from the task manager.
then while my iPod is connected i hold the home and power button for about
6 seconds and then let go both of them, then i hold them both again
and after about 2 seconds or so the message pops up:"the usb could not be recognized...",then wait until it disappears and let go of the power button
then wait until you hear a beep and you can restore.

Right, thanks for that. Itunes is mow recognizing an Ipod. When I click restore, I get the error:

"Software for this Ipod is not currently available. Make sure you have the latest version of Itunes and try again"

Any ideas? I do have the latest version by the way.

All sorted now. I downloaded the FW and manually installed it. Thanks.
