I was going to upgrade but I was wondering if I had to pay the 10 bucks to use genius.
    Thanks in advance.

Genius works for your non-itunes stuff, as long as you've somewhat properly labeled it in iTunes (album, artist, etc.)

It looks at, and identifies your song, compares it against a database of iTunes Store customer selections (think amazon... "people who liked this song also liked _____") and then generates a playlist of your OWN music, essentially predicting songs that will fit with the original song. it also suggests purchases in the right hand bar.

Pretty handy, you can right-click any song in your library and shortcut to the genius list.

The rub is, although you don't have to buy anything, you DO need to have an itunes store account for it to work.

...anyone know how many songs you need on your iPod for the Genius under 2.1 to work?
