G.I. Joe: is this possible

    in G.I joe there is a part were they workout the location of were an images was taken based on the size of a shadow and by knowing the time it was taken. Is this actualy possable? and if so how?

    I think it is. I remember one of my teachers saying something about it.

    anyone have specifics how to do it?

    they compare the length of the shadow to the height of a body and use that to find the angle of the sun
    if they know the time the picture was taken, they can find where the sun would have been at that angle at that time

    Yes, it is possible.

    For example, art scientists have worked out where all of Van Eyck's paintings were made the exact locations) by just looking at a tiny part of a building visible through a window, shadows (indeed), and other small details, so this is definitely possible.
