My old ipod got this headphone glitch so i went back to the store and they sent it in for service, 1 week later i got a brand new phone with 1.1.3 (and the progs installed).

I managed to take backup of my old one (calendar, notes etc) and now I want to put them on my new Ipod. I tried to FTP but it can't connect (and since its not jailbroken I can install Open SSH, is this critical?).

Last time i jailbroke my ipod it went from Swedish to English, is there a way to jailbreak 1.1.3 and keep the same language? And why do people keep saying they SSH'ed files, whats the diff between SSH and FTP? (SSH is decrypted, but is it really needed)

Ok let me sum it up with the 3 questions I have:

    1. Can I FTP files to my ipod without jailbreaking it?
    2. Can I jailbreak my ipod and keep my Language (Swedish)
    3. Whats the difference between SSH and FTP?

    Thanks for your time

No you can't FTP to a non-jailbroken iPod Touch.
    I have no idea.
SSH stands for Secure Shell, and that is for remotely running commands on a computer securely, as opposed to the clear-text telnet protocol. FTP is just a way of transferring files.
When people say,"SSH into your iPod to transfer stuff" they really mean SFTP. Its basically the same thing as SSH.

    there are plenty of options!

    you can use:
    iphonedrive
    iBrickr
    iPhone Browser

all of these work without jailbreaking.

just google one of them for the download.
i suggest using iBrickr because that is the one that works for me.
im sure the other two work well also tho

I believe Total Commander also works pre-jailbreak.

And jailbreaking shouldn't do anything to change the language.

    1. Total Commander, iPhone Drive work, but I don't know if you can get to the other partition.
    2. No problem.
    3. Both are File Transfer Protocols, but SSH is more secure than FTP.
