My friend has the SWOD issue. He had an iPhone 3GS that was jailbroken/unlocked by me way back when. He claims it was on 3.1.2 last time he remembered. He never really synced with iTunes. Therefore, all of his data is still on the phone. He gave me the phone to fix it, which I can probably do with either a simple restore or DFU restore but he kept mentioning how he just wants his contact list saved. He says he can't lose that. iTunes reads the iPhone normally but the iPhone randomly disconnects and reboots. Anyway I can retrieve the contact list?

I'm guessing no, but I'll search.....

Next time, tell him to back it up! If you don't have your data backed up, then you don't have it at all!

    Be back soon.

Okay, as far as I can tell, theres no way. UNLESS it was backed up to Google or something. But yeah, there's no way.

If he was jailbroken and had SSH installed he should be able to use WinSCP or CyberDuck to tunnel into his root directory (despite the SWOD). He can then pull off necessary files such as the contact database and add them back when he restores.

If he wasn't jailbroken and didn'T have OpenSSH installed from Cydia then he's out of luck and it's all lost. Basic rule of thumb, back up your stuff if you don't want to risk losing it!

I always hate when people don't sync with iTunes.
iPhone/iPod = iTunes! That's all there is to it!
    His loss.
